Happiness Is in The Flow of Real Life: Be a Part of It

“The whole point of focusing on ‘the NOW
is to end the search for happiness.”
Robert Holden, Happiness NOW

Going with the flow of our day means getting out of our heads as much as possible. Sure, we have to be in our heads some. But the average person probably spends 80 percent of their waking day living inside of their head, and they only bother to leave it when the bump into the reality of the outside world.

For example, you can be at work, sitting at your desk, fully engaged inside your head until your phone rings or someone knock on your door. These perceived interruptions take you out of your head and lead you back into the real world. They place you back into the flow of life, and yet we are often crusty about the fact that the real world is disturbing our little inner-world.

Think of it this way: Our little inner-world is filled with expectations, shoulds and other such happiness-zappers. When we are constantly caught-up in our little worlds of “this is how it should be,” we are miserable. And we are miserable for two reasons. First, life flows as the universe or God intends. Life doesn’t flow by virtue of our commands. We can command all we want, but when life doesn’t honor our commands, we are simply disappointed and miserable. Second, when we are always attempting to dictate life, we miss out on the joys and happiness of life as it flows past our stubborn little inner-worlds. Life leaves us standing behind it—in our inner-misery. We cannot determine happiness. We have to accept it as it comes to us in every moment that we choose to live in the real world, and not in our heads.

This is why Robert Holden says focusing on the now opens up the door to happiness. There’s happiness available to us in every moment if we allow ourselves to be present to the natural flow of each and every moment.

Today, try enjoying yourself by being part of the here and now. Observe everything around you. See the beauty in it all. Encounter those who enter your moments with the freeness of expressing whatever thoughts enter your head. Allow your conversations to flow. There’s no need to force them. Don’t labor over what you’re going to say. Flow.

Flow with your whole day and allow happiness to wrap its presence around you!
