Become the Person You Want to Spend Your Life With Everyday



I really don’t have to say much about the above quote. It says it all and it’s so true. We are too often taught faulty ways of thinking as children. So many of us get the wrong message at very young ages: Love is about finding the right person to love you.

Looking back I realize I wasted many years trying to find that “right” person— the one who could love me into loving myself— instead of trying to BE that “right” person myself. It never occurred to me that I needed to love myself, nurture myself and accept myself enough to become the right person— the person I really needed most in my life. After all, what is my life without me?

Now I know that I’m what’s been missing from my own life for years. My life is empty without me and without my spiritual Higher Power. This is true for all of us.  Once We find ourselves, become the “right” person God intended us to be, and become the person we want to spend the rest of our lives with, then we attract others into our lives who can compliment our wholeness. No one outside of ourselves can make us whole. But they can compliment who we are.

And let’s face it: We are all going to have to spend the rest of our lives with ourselves. We can run, but we can never truly leave “us” behind. Since we are required to spend the rest of our lives with ourselves 24/7, I’ve decide it’s better to love me than hate me. I want to be happy in this life, and we can only be happy once we are happy with ourselves. So I’m ready, willing and able to work at being the “right” person for my life, the one I want to spend my time with, especially my alone time.

    Nog iets goeds dat Dr. Wale voor ons heeft gedaan, is mijn oudere zus helpen haar geliefde terug te winnen die haar voor een andere vrouw had verlaten. De man van mijn oudere zus verliet haar vorig jaar vanwege een klein misverstand. Hij verliet het huis en begon een relatie met een andere vrouw. Mijn zus maakte zich daar zorgen over. De man van mijn oudere zus reisde met die andere vrouw de stad uit. Hij vertelde mijn zus dat hij haar nooit meer wilde zien. Hij zei dat hij van haar zou scheiden en met die andere vrouw zou trouwen. Mijn zus maakte zich steeds meer zorgen over de situatie. Een goede vriend van jullie vertelde ons dat alleen een man genaamd Dr. Wale mijn oudere zus uit deze situatie kon helpen. Mijn zus nam het telefoonnummer van Dr. Wale en belde hem na een gesprek met hem. Dr. Wale vertelde mijn zus dat ze de kosten voor de materialen moest betalen. Hij legde uit dat haar man onder een boze liefdesbetovering stond, waardoor hij het huis had verlaten en de andere vrouw was gevolgd. Die andere vrouw had een betovering gebruikt om de man van mijn zus vast te zetten, zodat hij van haar kon scheiden. Gelukkig schoot Dr. Wale mijn zus te hulp en redde haar. Hij was er meteen weer. Haar man kwam naar huis en smeekte mijn zus om vergeving. Nu leven ze gelukkig samen. Als u problemen in uw huwelijk heeft, raad ik u aan contact op te nemen met Dr. Wale. I'm sitting in a Panera Bread in Los Angeles, eating my cinnamon scone and preparing to cut my trip here short. I'll have to return home tomorrow and then fly to Omaha, Nebraska for a funeral. If You’re Unhappy, This May Be Why

I’ve spent most of my life trying to make other people happy because I felt responsible for their feelings. And the above quote is spot-on true. I’m the one person who’s not been happy, as a result. We are not responsible for other people’s feelings. We aren’t their savior. They are responsible for their feelings and we are responsible for ours. Yes, we can express empathy and compassion for others, but we need to stop taking on their feelings and problems as if they are our own. They aren’t. Another person’s problems and feelings affect us indirectly. Our own problems and feelings affect us directly. If we are feeling directly responsible for another person’s feeling/problems, there is something wrong with us. In other words, if a friend is going through a divorce, that is their problem; not ours. If we feel responsible for solving their problem, or for owning their feelings to the point of neglecting our own problems and feelings, we are trapped in codependent caretaki...

If You're Panicking Over Coronavirus, Get Out of Your Subconscious Mind and Trust Your Higher Power

So, how are you handling the coronavirus pandemic as a codependent? I'm actually surprised at how well I am handling it. A few years ago, my urgent codependent need to control my Higher Power's handling of the pandemic would have had me tied up in mental and emotional knots right now. Throw in the fact that I have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, which gives me an urgent fear of germs/viruses/bacteria, and I'd be on the verge of an emotional breakdown. But today that's not the case. When we first enter recovery, we may believe we are responsible for the lives of everyone we have grown attached to, or taken hostage. We are so used to linking our compassion for others with a deep sense of being obligated to fix their lives.
